Description
Wonderful World War II enlisted Service Hat! This example is nice in that is has a pressed paper chinstrap instead of the standard leather variety found on most hats. These are actually very hard to come by, and attest to the wartime shortages that manufacturers had to contend with. The hat is marked on the inside crown as being the "US Army All Wool Garrison Hat" (even though this is a service/visor hat, not a garrison hat), along with the national eagle. The chinstrap buttons are the standard brass variety. The original enlisted hat device is affixed to the front. Just a great example of a wartime hat that reflects the shortages and economy measures that has to be taken. Scarce. The hat remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. The wool body shows fading and a few areas of moth damage, but overall fine. The leather sweatband shows stress and drying from age. Standard wear on the visor. The pressed paper sweatband shows wear, as seen. Please see the pictures for more detail.
