    Description

Here we have a highly unusual
1990s Bird Island, Seychelles, postcard to Scotland with a
Zil Elwannyen Sesel, Seychelles, stamp and illustrated Bird Island cachet. The postcard of the island, which shows it just rising out of the Indian Ocean, bears a fine and attractive R3 stamp picturing a red seabird, Drylimnas cuvieri aldabranus. The stamp marks the 10th anniversary of the Aldabra Island World Heritage Site. (The island is in the same general area.) The stamp is dated 1992, which gives us a good idea of the date of the card.
The card bears an attractive, neat and well-struck illustrated Bird Island Seychelles undated cachet near the stamp. It does not tie the stamp to the postcard and the stamp is not postmarked. The card is definitely postally used, however, as it bears blue British postal code sorting dots. The message says: "Thought you would like this view. The island once more working its magic. UK a long long way away. We get fatter and browner by the hour." The card is addressed to Mr and Mrs J McWilliam, Gilsland Terr., Edinburgh, Scotland.
A scarce and attractive postcard, bird-related and island postal history from an area of the Indian Ocean that is the subject of some controversy over the US-UK Diego Garcia military base and the use of British Indian Ocean Territory stamps on islands claimed by Mauritius. Some of the islands in the group have been returned to the Seychelles, hence the franking on this card.
The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2021 postage rates.
British buyers please note: This item will cost .40 to post.
As I have some fixed-price items anyone who purchases one of my lots might want to look at them before paying. Additional postage is free for subsequent purchases unless they are too big for my normal very low basic rates. If you are buying more than one item please wait for me to send an invoice so I can combine postage.
When payment for lots won is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday.
